Show the welcome guide again ›This app was built out of curiosity — a personal project to explore Carnatic ragas, not a teaching authority. It can get things wrong: a raga may be misidentified, a swara mis-heard, or a detail about a raga may simply be inaccurate.
Mistakes are corrected as they’re found, and the app keeps improving over time.
It listens for the pitch of each note, works out your Sa (Sruti), and compares the notes you used with every raga it knows. Two independent methods do this, and when they disagree you'll see both suggestions.
The Raga Finder is still in Beta, so it can get a raga wrong — especially with fast gamakas or a noisy room. If it misreads your Sa, use Wrong Sa? under the result.
When you tap Identify, your recording is sent to the Raga Journey server, analysed, and then deleted. Recordings are never stored.
All 72 melakarta ragas, generated from the traditional melakarta system, plus a selection of popular janya ragas — more will be added over time.
